The Heaphy Track is a 78km walk through Kahurangi National Park, crossing from Golden Bay to the wild West Coast through tussock downs, lush nikau palm forests, and dramatic coastal sections. At 4–6 days, it's the longest Great Walk. Hut bookings open once a year and popular dates sell out. Cancellations come up as trampers adjust their plans.
