The Tongariro Northern Circuit is a 43km loop around Mount Ngauruhoe in Tongariro National Park — a dual World Heritage site. The track passes through volcanic landscapes, emerald lakes, and ancient lava flows, and includes the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing as one section. Hut bookings open once a year and popular dates sell out fast.
