The Whanganui Journey is a 3–5 day canoe or kayak trip down the Whanganui River through one of New Zealand's most remote and historically significant landscapes. It's the only Great Walk that's paddled rather than walked. DOC huts and campsites along the river are limited and bookings open once a year.
